Rapid Quantitation of VOCs in Soil & Water by HS-GC-MS

A headspace sampling (HS) method has been developed for rapid quantitation of ppb level contamination in soil and water samples that, within its 5½ minute GC runtime, facilitates determination of >60 volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Successful trace analysis of VOCs requires careful sampling and handling conditions to be met, which prove costly in the event of reanalysis being required. Therefore, efficient determination of the presence of compounds within this well known suite of environmental pollutants, particularly in samples originating from potentially highly contaminated sites, is of commercial benefit to all environmental testing laboratories.
