Automated Method for the Extraction and Derivatisation of Alkylphenols, Ethoxylates and Bisphenol A in Water
Application Note
Automation offers several advantages not just in terms of analytical performance but also for throughput and risk reduction. For environmental testing especially, automation has dealt successfully with a range of methodologies. Alkylphenols and their ethoxylates pose a hazard to human and wildlife health as endocrine disruptors, and as such need to be regularly measured in environmental matrices. This application note demonstrates the fully automated extraction and derivatization of these analytes as developed by John Quick at ALS, Coventry. The developed method showed precision and bias falling within their regulatory required limits. Good correlation coefficients were obtained for all analytes. Full accreditation was obtained for four analytes with validation in a range of matrices.
