Continuous Headspace Analysis Using SIFT-MS: A Powerful Probe of Dynamic Processes
Application Note
Emissions of volatile compounds are dynamic – depending on temperature, surface area, humidity, and so on. However, conventional volatile organic compound (VOC) analysis utilises chromatographic methods, which by their nature are slow. SIFT-MS allows for continuous monitoring of concentration changes, in real-time, opening up the possibility of probing dynamic VOC release. This application note demonstrates a new automated SIFT-MS method – Continuous Headspace Analysis (CHA) and its application to residual monomer release from polymers and active ingredient release from a consumer healthcare product.
