Excellent New Publication on the Analysis of Beverages

Handbook of Alcoholic Beverages by Alan J Burglass

Our good friend and long-standing customer,
Dr Darren Caven-Quantrill of Frutarom in Wellingborough has drawn our attention to a useful book that he has contributed to:

Handbook of Alcoholic Beverages: Technical, Analytical and Nutritional Aspects, edited by Alan J Burglass

I have spent some time browsing the two volumes . It is indeed a useful reference for anyone involved in the analysis of beverages or food and drink in general.

Darren, wrote two parts:

  1. Chapter 4.2 in Volume 2 on “Extraction and  Focusing Methods in Sample Preparation”
  2. The GC section 4.3.2 in the chapter on “Chromatographic Methods”

The first part will be useful to anyone involved, or planning to become involved in GC analysis in this context, as it discusses everything from traditional manual procedures, right the way through to current automated sample prep with SPME, SBSE and the like. The text is very well populated with references to other publications.

GERSTEL Sample Peparation and Injection technology features throughout.

Darren commented to me:

I got involved in this book because I wanted to give something back.  In the course of my industrial and academic experiences, I have gathered a lot of analytical information the hard way and I felt that other people could benefit from having this information in one place.

The book is available from Amazon, however the editor, Professor Alan Burglass (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), has kindly supplied me with a free promotional copy to give away, so the usual rules apply with our book give aways:

  1. Send an email to enquiries@anatune.co.uk with “Handbook of Alcoholic Beverages” in the subject line.
  2. We will gather together all of the emails and pull one out of a hat, to decide the lucky recipient of the book.
  3. We will contact the winner by email and arrange for the book to be delivered.

Good Luck!
